The Fine Art photography of Sharon Mendelson is a direct response to her love and respect for the importance of nature. In the natural world Mendelson finds a truth and vital connection to the world of Spirit that she attempts to then convey in her images.
Her photographs are taken directly from the natural world; she does not retouch color or alter the qualities that first attracted her lens. “Light amazes me,” says Mendelson. “I am fascinated by what is natural to the world around us. I do not see the need, at this time, to enhance the beauty that I find.” The exception will be when the lens or camera has been moved to build an effect, as will be evident in a future series about earth changes an what is precious to us. What remains constant in Sharon’s work is a delight in texture, color and form, and the abiding expression of a sense of fascination and appreciation. Beauty as an intelligence thrives in her art.
“First I build my images by choice of subject, and then I arrange my picture frame to help develop the sense of space or energetic quality that has moved me to capture it initially. Often I think of my photographs as portraits of a place or the space within it. Abstraction of the image helps me to convey these qualities and takes the viewer attention away from the objects within the picture frame and brings the focus onto the wholeness of the place.”
